Review! Lying to meet you by Anna Garner

Does being in a relationship make you a hot commodity in the eyes of would-be suitors?

Chloe Lane is about to find out. When her childhood pal, Ethan Webster, asks her to play the part of his girlfriend in order to test this theory, she reluctantly agrees. As a work-crazed fashion designer, boutique owner and soon-to-be reality show judge, Chloe has no time for a real boyfriend, but being part of a faux pair will do just fine. Not that she has any intention of trying to attract someone else.

However…

Opportunity unexpectedly knocks when Chloe meets fellow reality judge, William Shannon. Super successful and super sexy, this high-powered entrepreneur inspires Chloe to test Ethan’s theory herself. Now, on top of keeping her fashion business productive, carving out a new role as a television personality, maintaining a fake relationship and attempting to lay the groundwork for a future relationship, she’s lying to William, lying to her friends, lying to her family and quite possibly lying to herself. Will Chloe be able to keep it all together, or are things about to explode?

Review: this was one of those books where I didn't really know an awful lot about it before I began, but from the moment I DID begin I was hooked. This is chick-lit at its best. A story about a boy and a girl about my age who begin as friends then fake a relationship so they can attract other partners, you know the rest-I loved it. The characters in question were really strong and really likeable. Chloe has worked hard to build up her fashion business in New York, she has a group of lovely friends, including Ethan and yet still doesn't get the recognition she craves from her parents. She does get recognition from a television network however, and makes a strong performance in a dragons den style reality show! It was awesome!

Ethan is your typical boy next door, he literally did live a few doors down from Chloe's childhood home and I defy anyone not to swoon over him-he's just gorgeous. He's also funny and smart and that's what makes their plan really work, they cover every aspect of what people might ask of them and I spent the whole entire novel willing them to just get it together already! I loved all of Chloe's friends and thought they we totally realistic. Both Chloe and Ethan's new love interests, I wasn't so keen on however, but they are strongly represented throughout the novel and are crucial to the plot so I don't mind a bit of dislike here and there...

The setting,oh the setting, i love a book set in New York City! I felt instantly at ease with this setting, hearing about the girls apartments and Chloe's boutique, not to mention the eateries, just amazing! It thought their apartments were totally realistic, unlike the way New York apartments are represented in certain TV sitcoms, and there's even an impromptu trip to San Francisco dropped in just for fun! The characters, storyline and setting were all really well researched and well written to making life as a reader of this novel as easy as possible!

If you are looking for something with unpredictable twists and turns, lashings of sex or violence in anyway then this book is definitely not for you! But if you are into a fabulous love story with modern, realistic characters and the classic chick lit formula then you will love this as much as I did. It's a perfect, fast-paced read to see in the autumn months with!
