Review: Binge by Tyler Oakley

For someone who made a career out of over-sharing on the internet, Tyler Oakley has a shocking number of personal mishaps and shenanigans to reveal in his first book: he experienced a legitimate rage blackout in a Cheesecake Factory; he had a fashion stand-off with the White House secret service; he crashed a car in front of his entire high school in his fast food restaurant server's uniform; he projectile vomited while bartering with a grandmother.

With millions of fans clamouring for more Tyler Oakley, he delivers his best untold, hilariously side-splitting moments with trademark flair in Binge.

Review: wow, from not knowing anything about Tyler Oakley, reading this book has definitely turned me into a fan! I listened to this on audiobook and so I was hooked into this right from the word go since it is read by Tyler himself. What followed was him telling me about his life, loves, likes and dislikes and I enjoyed every moment of it. This book had me laughing out loud but also made me think and gave me a lot more respect for how hard this individual has worked to grow his brand!

Some of the things I liked best about this book included his ranking of the Disney Princes, my favourite is also his and always will be! I liked the fact that he talked about how his success happened gradually and then all at once, and that he admitted that the fame isn't always a good thing all the time. I really respected the fact that, despite being a male in the public eye, he tackles the issues of eating disorders and homophobia. I really enjoyed hearing stories of when things went comically wrong and was pleased to learn that he too loves Scrabble and The Cheesecake factory (I had my wedding luncheon there!)

I think that even if you are not already a fan of Tyler Oakley, if you are subscribed to any particular YouTube channels which are popular, then this will be a fun and eye-opening read for you. I also think that if you are a young person, this book is a coming of age story of sorts and so this will definitely be a valuable read. As I say, this book has made a Tyler Oakley fan out of me but it was also just such a fin listen and something I think I will re-read at some point in the no so distant future!
